One word in Genesis 22 refuses to let us read on autopilot: lamb. Abraham tells Isaac, “God will provide himself a lamb,” yet the immediate rescue comes through a ram caught in a thicket. That tension is not a throwaway detail, and we lean into it with a careful, verse-by-verse Bible study that treats prophecy, language, and context like they matter...because they do. We start on Mount Moriah with the most distressing command Abraham ever receives and the surprising speed of his response. Why does he move so quickly, and what does “swift obedience” look like when obedience hurts? Along the way we explore the Hebrew flavor behind “rose up early,” the difference between impulsiveness and prepared action, and why this narrative is designed to be felt, not skimmed. When Isaac finally asks the question his father dreads, “Where is the lamb for a burnt offering?”, we grapple with the human reality: is Abraham lying, being deceptive, or shielding his son from terror while he clings to faith? From there we zoom out into Biblical typology and prophecy precision. Drawing on insights like J Vernon McGee’s, we argue the “lamb” language is intentional foreshadowing that points NOT to the ram of Genesis 22 but to Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, and God’s Plan of Redemption. If you care about faithful hermeneutics, clear exegesis, and a deeper understanding of Abraham and Isaac, this study will stretch you in the best way.
