Can a dead battery make my guitar sound better?

In my quest to recreate the legendary guitar tone from Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky," I've already modified an Electro-Harmonix Satisfaction Fuzz into something much closer to a Jordan Boss Tone. But many players believe part of that classic fuzz sound comes from running the circuit from a weak or dying battery. Instead of hunting for old batteries, I built a simple voltage sag box that lets me dial the pedal's supply voltage up and down with a knob. I call it the Everdead (or Dead Batt), and it's a quick DIY project that can dramatically change the character of a fuzz pedal. In this video I show how the circuit works, how to wire it, how to test it, and most importantly, how it affects the sound of the modified Satisfaction Fuzz.
