Chad Staples: From The Delta Paint Shop To More Music Foundation In Newnan | Ep 29

Chad Staples is the founder and director of More Music Foundation, a nonprofit in Newnan, Georgia that puts instruments, lessons, and scholarships in front of kids across Coweta County. He played bass in bands from seventeen to thirty. Then he quit, sold every instrument he owned, and took a job painting airplanes at Delta for twelve dollars an hour. He didn't touch an instrument for seven years. Two workplace injuries and two spinal surgeries later, he got up at two in the morning and wrote a five-and-a-half-page business plan. That plan became More Music Foundation. In this conversation we talk about the Saturday mornings at Bridging the Gap that started it, what actually happens in a room full of kids and a stack of hand drums, why he stopped describing the children he serves as at-risk, and why he turned down an entire neighboring county that asked for help.
