10 Moments that Shaped Week 4 of the 1991 College Football Season

Week 4: The Night Alabama's 28-Game Streak Began (And Nine Other Games That Shaped 1991 College Football) Week 4 of the 1991 college football season delivered some of the most dramatic finishes of the year — and at least one result that nobody in the building realized was history in the making. Washington trailed by twelve points in the fourth quarter on the road against a top-ten Nebraska team and scored the game's final 27 points to escape with the win. Florida's unbeaten start ended on a 95-yard opening kickoff return at Syracuse. Mississippi State came within a final two-minute drive of pulling off its second signature SEC upset in three weeks. And in Tuscaloosa, an Alabama team coming off the worst loss of Gene Stallings' tenure delivered a shutout over Georgia that turned out to be the opening game of a 28-game winning streak. In this episode, we break down four marquee matchups in depth — Washington/Nebraska, Florida/Syracuse, Mississippi State/Tennessee, and Georgia/Alabama — with full play-by-play, player performances, and the quotes that captured each moment. Plus quicker hits on six more games that shaped the season: Texas A&M/Tulsa, Washington State/Ohio State, Houston/Illinois, Texas/Auburn, Cal/Arizona, and Michigan State/Notre Dame. We're looking at the plays, the players, and what each result meant heading into the following week — all while keeping an eye on the bigger picture: a season that would end in a second straight split national championship and help spark the conversation that eventually led to the BCS. 🏈 Games covered: #WashingtonHuskies at #NebraskaCornhuskers #Florida at #Syracuse #MississippiState at #Tennessee #Georgia at #Alabama #TexasA&M at #Tulsa #WashingtonState at #OhioState #Houston at #Illinois #Texas at #Auburn #Cal at #Arizona #MichiganState at #NotreDame Subscribe for the full 1991 season, week by week, all year long. #CollegeFootball #1991CollegeFootball #CFBHistory #NCAAFootball
