A Girl Can Touch the Sky is an award-winning documentary about girls fighting for education, equality and the freedom to choose their own futures in India. From girls facing child marriage and the loss of their education to young women determined to become teachers, nurses, police officers and even astronauts, the film asks a bigger question: is educating girls enough if the families, communities and society around them don’t change too? Filmmaker Ravinol Chambers travels across India meeting girls, families, educators, activists and young men confronting the traditions and attitudes that continue to restrict girls’ lives. What begins as a journey exploring girls’ education becomes a much wider examination of gender inequality, cultural tradition and social change, and the role that boys, men, women and entire communities must play if lasting change is to become possible.
