Gyanesh Kumar should not get immunity: Prakash Raj interview

Actor Prakash Raj speaks with TNM’s Editorial Head (Reporting) Pooja Prasanna in Bengaluru, ahead of the Cockroach Janata Party led protest in the city on October 8. With the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, the dignity of the citizen has been compromised, the actor says. He questions the Election Commission, saying, “You are asking us to stand in line because you have not done your job.” The conversation also touched upon the Indian Express report in disagreement within the Election Commission of India, the 2023 CEC and Other Election Commissioners Act that gave judicial immunity to the commissioners and changed the constitution of the selection committee. Prakash Raj also speaks about the pressures faced by the Booth Level Officers who conducted the SIR, and the struggles faced by vulnerable communities during the SIR. “There is some conspiracy,” he says, adding that removing just Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar will not solve the problem. “The demand should be to rollback the SIR and investigate what has been done since the process began,” he says.
