Back about a year ago a Japanese Nico Nico user by the name of "cheap" discovered and posted this amazing trick in Final Fantasy IV for the Super Famicom. I then posted it on my old YouTube account, where it got picked up by a few places. It's now common knowledge, but for reference and historical purposes I've reuploaded the video here. Basically, there are two types of map/room changes in FFIV - "Go" types and "Return" types. Outside, you're at Room Level 0, but each time you go into a room the "Room Level" increments. Each time you exit something, the Room Level will decrement. But sometimes there are places where you can continually increment the Room Level. If the Room Level hits 64 it resets to 0. If you then use a "Return" method (by exiting a Return door or using Warp) then you'll be taken to Room Level -1, which obviously causes glitches. By continuing to use "Return" doors/methods, you can go even further into the negatives. Anything that's a negative Room Level will be using invalid data that's used for other stuff in the game, like the positions of vehicles, config options, character stats, that sort of thing. By cleverly using this fact, you can do some crazy stuff with the game! I was going to translate this video originally, but I don't have the time to. I'll put a quick translation of all the text on my homepage at http://matotree.com/2012/08/final-fan...
