Ever had to pull 200 VFX shots from a timeline?
Ever wish you could automate the process?
In this video, i'm going to go over the process of using some python scripts, and markers to automatically name and extract your clips from the timeline.
We are going to use Avid, and Resolve for this Process.
I'm not a python expert at all, so credit where credit is due, borrowed from several scripts i found on the web and combined aspects of them to create one that works for me.
Thanks to the following forums and users for their scripting ideas.
Original starting point:

Avid markers to Resolve timeline by Marcus Herrick.

Discussion where Roger Magnusson helps with the start timecode issue:

***this is the final script I used start at project_manager. Paste into a text document, and save as a .py file.****
project_manager = resolve.GetProjectManager()
project = project_manager.GetCurrentProject()
timeline = project.GetCurrentTimeline()
markers = timeline.GetMarkers()
#Thanks to roger magnusson for this, fixes start frame needing to be at 00:00:00:00
startFrame = timeline.GetStartFrame()
get marker frames, Blue only and names
mf = []
for frame,marker in markers.items():
if marker['color'] == "Blue":
mf.append((frame, marker['name']))
mf.append((timeline.GetEndFrame(),"end")) #add end
iterate through list, skipping last item used only for end frame
for i in range(len(mf)-1):
project.SetRenderSettings({
"SelectAllFrames": False,
#"MarkIn": mf[i][0],
#"MarkOut": mf[i][0],
"MarkIn":startFrame + mf[i][0],
"MarkOut": startFrame + mf[i][0],
"CustomName": f"{i:02}-" + mf[i][1],
})
print(i)
project.AddRenderJob()
