Years of Stove Smoke Blackened His Home — We Restored It for Grandpa

Today, we traveled to a small mountain village in northern China to help an 83-year-old man who lives alone restore his home. His family works in a city far away and can only return to the village during holidays. Although they help care for him whenever they can, the kitchen had become difficult to clean after years of cooking over a traditional stove. Thick grease covered the surfaces, and the ceiling had turned black from years of smoke. We spent four days cleaning two rooms, tackling stubborn grease, smoke stains, and years of built-up grime. We also learned more about Grandpa's daily life in this traditional rural home. Despite his age and the fact that he has lost most of the sight in one eye, Grandpa still knows where his belongings are and takes pride in looking after himself. He even encourages his son to keep working while he is still able, rather than giving up his job to stay home. We hope this cleanup will make daily life a little easier and more comfortable for Grandpa, and that he can enjoy many happy and healthy years in his home.
