This is the final show of the Heathen Chemistry Tour. Berlin wasn’t one of the locations cancelled back in November, but this change makes this the third time Oasis have played Berlin on this tour on three separate occasions (a gig in February and June the previous year, both at the Columbiahalle). This show is one of the weakest from these 2003 gigs from Liam especially. His passion just isn’t there and his voice can’t keep up, such as in Supersonic, in which he stops singing. It keeps going just about though. The rest of the band put on a fine performance as per usual, and there’s a great solo played at the end of Morning Glory. The only real reason to listen to this gig is the fact that it is essentially Alan White’s last gig with Oasis. It’s never been confirmed what happened or how it happened, but according to his brother Steve, it seems that Alan wasn’t very happy with whatever that was.
A statement that was put out to press shortly after this situation in January 2004 said that he was “asked to leave” by the other band members. This has led to lots of rumours, such as his lack of commitment to band meetings or disagreements with Noel, or even that maybe he was the person behind leaking some of the songs off Heathen Chemistry early. A proper answer has never really been given, but it does seem to lead towards him being fired, over his own decision to pack it in. With that being said, problems with tendonitis as well as the increasing use of drum loops throughout Oasis’ early ‘00’s output may have had him feeling beat a bit. Whatever happened, it was a shame either way. Alan was the only carry-over apart from Liam and Noel into the new millennium with Andy and Gem, and the last few years of Oasis do feel different after Alan leaves. This would be the last performances of several Heathen Chemistry songs. The Hindu Times would last one more gig, at Poole in 2004. Stop Crying Your Heart and Little By Little would both be axed by late 2005.
