DX Samurai Gattai Shinkenoh! DX 侍合体シンケンオー As the last mecha in a decade marred by hits and misses, Shinkenoh kinda falls in a grey area. On the plus side, each mecha is triple transforming. On the downside, gimmicks tend to take away from looks and function of toys. So Shinkenoh...how does it fare? Shinkenoh is the resulting combination of five mecha. 1. Shishi Origami 2. Ryu Origami 3. Kame Origami 4. Kuma Origami 5. Saru Origami 1. 獅子折神 2. 龍折神 3. 亀折神 4. 熊折神 5. 猿折神 Each Origami can transform between Animal Mode (アニマルモード) and Emblem Mode (エンブレムモード). Once combined using the command Samurai Gattai (侍合体) Shinkenoh has two weapons. The first is the Daishinken (ダイシンケン) sword and the Hiden Shield (秘伝シールド). The design of the individual mecha are clever to say the least. The way the helmet is stored in the Ryu Origami is pretty neat. However, the resulting design leaves a lot to be desired in the main mecha, Shishi Origami. In every mode, it looks bad. The pegs for the arms jut out in both animal and emblem mode and the head almost seems like an afterthought. When I first saw Shinkenoh, it looked unfinsihed...like there was to be a ton of additional mecha. I was, unfortunately, correct. Shinkenoh can combine with Daitenkuu (ダイテンクウ) to become Tenkuu Shinkenoh (テンクウシンケンオー). It can also combine with Daikaioh (ダイカイオー) to become Daikai Shinkenoh (ダイカイシンケンオー). If there is one thing that really drives me crazy about this mecha...it's the sword. It's horrible. Hands down the worst sword ever included in a DX Sentai mecha. Aside from the cheap, Bandai America-grade plastic they used to make it...the rounded tip makes it look like a butter knife! Mind you, I love the design on the show. The toy version of Daishinken is absoulte crap. Even Engine-oh and Daibouken did better! If I had to praise Shinkenoh for one thing, it would be the helmet. 99% of mecha in the past never got it right when it came to the toy versions. DX Dairenoh, for example, looks terrible thanks to a terrible helmet design. The helmet for Shinkenoh not only fits properly, but the proportions work out nicely. As of this re-upload, new episodes of Power Rangers are being produced by Saban. The new series, Power Rangers Samurai, does infact use Shinkenoh as Samurai Megazord. The Origami have also been adapted as Foldingzords. Bandai America has, ofcourse, released their own version for the Megazord line-up.
