In 1958, he joined Miles Davis's group. He played on the recording of Kind of Blue (1959), the best-selling jazz album in history. His modal approach shaped the entire sound of the record. In the early 1960s, he formed a revolutionary trio with bassist Scott LaFaro and drummer Paul Motian. They transformed the jazz trio dynamic, giving equal weight to piano, bass, and drums. Evans's life was marked by heroin addiction, which deepened his melancholy and introspection. He passed away in 1980 at age 51, leaving behind an immense legacy that inspired generations of pianists.
