THIS CLOSE to a legendary P-51D Mustang — with nothing between you and the Merlin. 🔥
Experience the P-51D Mustang “Louisiana Kid” from an incredibly close flightline perspective at Wings & Wheels 2026 of LSV Hayingen in Germany.
No distant crowd shot.
No music covering the engine.
No announcer talking over the aircraft.
🎧 Just the raw, authentic sound of a Packard-built Rolls-Royce Merlin V1650-7 and the Mustang right in front of you.
This is about as close as you can get to a P-51D Mustang on the ground…
unless you fly it yourself. ✈️
ABOUT THE AIRCRAFT
The “Louisiana Kid” is a genuine North American P-51D Mustang, built in 1944 by North American Aviation in Inglewood, California, with the serial number 44-73254.
During World War II, the aircraft was shipped to Great Britain as a spare aircraft and did not see combat service. In 1947 it was transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force, where it received the designation RCAF 9571.
After returning to civilian ownership in the United States, the Mustang suffered a major accident on May 31, 1963. It was subsequently rebuilt, with Donald Weber of Baton Rouge, Louisiana completing the restoration and returning the aircraft to flight in 1978. For the next 35 years, Weber flew and maintained the Mustang in Louisiana.
In late 2012, Wilhelm Heinz acquired the aircraft and brought it to Germany. In February 2013, the Mustang arrived at Albstadt-Degerfeld, where it was reassembled and restored to flying condition. It returned to the air on May 1, 2013 and has since appeared at airshows across Europe.
The name “Louisiana Kid” reflects the aircraft's long history in the US state of Louisiana under Donald Weber.
