The Ten thousand Buddhist Monastery sha Tin is a mid-20th century temple located in Sha Tin, Hong Kong, at Pai Tau Village 220. The mention of it as a monastery is actually wrong because there are no monks living in the complex, which is managed by the laypeople themselves. Both the main temple building and the pagoda are listed as Category III Historic Buildings by the Government of Hong Kong. The groundbreaking and construction of the temple was constructed in 1951 on the initiative of Yuet Kai and his followers,[1] and the structure was completed six years later. The temple was closed for three years in the late 20th century after one of its caretakers was killed in a landslide caused by a nearby poorly maintained slope. The main walk to the temple is an attraction in itself, as either side of the road is lined with golden Buddhas, each unique and in different poses. Despite common translations of its name, the temple actually has nearly 13,000 Buddha statues.
