(Verse)
Before there was a kingdom
Before there was a crown
Before the sins of history
Had been written down
The heavens kept their counsel
In a language without sound
And every ray of light
Was infinitely bound
I stand beneath the firmament and calculate the span
A grain of dust with questions exceeding minds of men
I measure what is visible yet measurement is cursed
Every boundary witnessed means there’s a further verse to serve
The further that the eye can see the further grows the fray
We gaze into the darkness looking backward all the same
Beams of ancient light arrive upon the earth
What seems to be a star tonight had long since had its birth
So tell me what is present when the present comes delayed
Do we witness it directly or only what remains
The heavens are a manuscript no mortal hand rehearsed
Now I read between the lines
Observing every Verse
(Chorus)
There’s beauty in silence
Muse without sound
Ending the violence
Where vilification abounds
There’s beauty in silence
Where stillness may be
May the noise vanish
May we finally sleep
May we finally sleep
(Verse)
A prophet speaks of what may be and centuries proceed
The masses may anticipate the hour of the deed
Then someone stands where ink and living circumstance converge
And suddenly the written and the witnessed seem to merge
Is destiny recorded or do prophets merely see
A road already woven through what mortals call to be
If choice remains within us yet the ending can be known
Does foreknowledge forge the pathway or observe the path alone
The question cuts like iron through the scholar and the priest
Does knowing of the harvest bring upon the feast
The witness sees the lightning
But doesn’t make the storm
The reader finds the meaning
But the author gives it form
A scroll may bear a promise long before a child is born
A warning may lay dormant until kingdoms lie in thorns
And when the signs are given by almighty god at work
The witness does not merely read
They answer in the verse
(Chorus)
There’s beauty in silence
Muse without sound
Ending the violence
Where vilification abounds
There’s beauty in silence
Where stillness may be
May the noise vanish
May we finally sleep
May we finally sleep
(Verse)
The sage beholds the heavens
The scribe writes every page
The slave may count the seasons
The king may end an age
The shepherd knows the constellations turning in the night
The dying man knows little except the value of a life
And each believes his window is the border of the whole
As though the eye defines the world the flesh defines the soul
But absence from perception is not proof that none exist
There may be countless kingdoms past the reach of mortal mist
There may be truth beyond the final torch upon the road
A sea beyond the coastline and a meaning past the cold
The known is but an island where our temporary minds
Draw borders on eternity then worship their designs
I will not say that god is false because he hides from me
The blind man does not loath the sun for lacking eyes to see
Humanity finds wisdom when among diversity
The universe observed with a quiet melody
Is written in the verse the way it’s meant to be
If I witness a miracle
Was I chosen to see
If I witness a prophecy
Was it waiting for me
If the heavens haven’t any borders
What lies beyond the horizon
Bear the weight upon my shoulders
Pray for the might to survive it
Time is like a river
I’m standing on the shore
The void is just a sliver
There must be something more
Silence is the language
Of a fluent universe
Embark upon the pilgrimage
Learn to speak the verse
(Chorus)
There’s beauty in silence
Muse without sound
Ending the violence
Where vilification abounds
There’s beauty in silence
Where stillness may be
May the noise vanish
May we finally sleep
May we finally sleep
In loving memory of Arnel. May he be at peace beyond the heavens.
