I built a UK Law Firm from scratch as an immigrant with no support | Kemi Obayelu | Tell Our Story

What does it take to build a flourishing legal career in the UK while nurturing a marriage, raising children and staying connected to your values? In the first episode of Tell Our Story, Light of Africa host, Olukorede Oyewoga meets Kemi Obayelu, a lawyer and Director of Goshen Solicitors Limited, to explore the person behind the profession. With over 18 years of legal practice in the UK, Kemi brings a wealth of experience in immigration, asylum and family law. But behind those professional achievements is a personal story of work, family, faith and the choices that shape a life. Our conversation explores: • Her journey into the legal profession and life in the UK. • Building a law business alongside her husband. • Navigating marriage, motherhood and a demanding career. • Making time for family, rest and the things she enjoys. • Lessons from her journey for the next generation. OUR GUEST Kemi Obayelu holds an LLM in International Human Rights from Birmingham City University. Her practice spans immigration, asylum and family law. She has appeared at all levels of the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal and handled judicial review proceedings in the Administrative Court and Upper Tribunal’s Immigration and Asylum Chamber. She is accredited under the Law Society’s Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme as a Supervising Senior Caseworker. ABOUT TELL OUR STORY Our lives are more than the headlines.
