Why is the sea salty? Rain slowly washes tiny bits of salt out of rocks, rivers carry it to the sea, and when the Sun lifts the water back up, the salt stays behind. Bugsy follows the salt from rocks to rivers to the ocean (it's not fish tears!). Ocean science for kids: grow your own salt crystals on a sunny window sill. Try it: A grown-up makes some warm water and you stir in lots of salt. Pour a little onto a dark plate and leave it somewhere sunny for a few days. The water floats away and sparkly salt crystals are left behind! Safety: A grown-up handles the warm water. Bugsy's Why Lab: short, curious science stories for kids aged 5 to 8, on the letsBug channel. Every episode ends with an experiment to try at home. Grown-ups: please help with every 'Try it' activity.
