How to Make Custom Straight Razor Scales, Part I | Portland Razor Co

This video demonstrates how to make wooden scales for a straight razor from a block of desert ironwood. We begin by resawing the block into sheets (we do this with a band saw), and then plane those sheets to the desired thickness using the drum sander. Next, we tape the two sheets together and trace the profile of the scales, and cut them out with a band saw. We tap the pivot and pin holes, and then pre-assemble the scales for gluing. Tomorrow, we'll come back and sand them to shape and polish them!
