Moving to the adjacent Sanyuan Taoist Temple, we quietly comprehend the folk Taoist culture enshrining the Three Gods of Heaven, Earth and Water. Then we walk along the waterside path to Zhiye Temple, embracing the peaceful compassion of Zen amid the temple bells. One spot preserves the noble spirit of literati, one holds people’s sincere prayers in Taoist tradition, and the other shelters tranquil Buddhist Zen. Lakes and ancient buildings set off each other, blending Confucian literary heritage, Taoism and Buddhism. The profound history of Songjiang spanning six thousand years unfolds before our eyes. As time goes by, this ancient land forever keeps the tenderness and fortitude unique to the Jiangnan region.
