Your bow points one way and the tide carries you another. The course to steer is the heading that cancels the stream, so you still arrive where you planned. This video works it out on the chart, the way the Yachtmaster Offshore exam expects: track, course to steer and course over the ground; reading the tidal stream atlas (pages on high water Dover, neaps and springs); the tidal triangle drawn with plotter, dividers and pencil on a short leg (course to steer 295); a long leg where the stream changes over four pages (course to steer 027, one course held for the whole leg); and the four mistakes that cost marks in the exam. Every step is done inside the Offshore Theory course, on the real Channel chart, and the plan is marked.
