The X1/9 dates back to early 1970's and so do the standard headlights - which by today's standards are rubbish.
Rather than adding LED bulbs instead of tungsten, the previous owner of my X1/9, Andy, did a brilliant job of dropping in entirely new plug and play Land Rover LED headlight units. These suffered water ingress, as not designed to sit flat when off as they do in an X1/9, so bought new ones and here am putting them in, with extra weather protection. LEDs offer much better lighting and less electrical load.
As always, start one job and find more. Never buy an older car unless you enjoy working on it yourself. Luckily, I do. At 17, my first car was an X1/9 - decided upon as worked as a driver in a car auction and drove a silver 1500 X1/9 through. From that moment I wanted an X1/9. Bought a 1977 1300 and never looked back.
Please note, have zero affiliation to Dynax S50 or the Rocket spray stuff. Just show what I choose to use, because it is good.
Have a habit of using liquid paper to mark positions of things. If it turns out not to be needed, no harm done. But some times, it can be a life saver.
If any questions, please ask.
