Day 4 of the Life360 trial, State v. Cooper Ouellette, in Connecticut Superior Court. Cooper Ouellette is on trial over the May 2023 death of Sophie Ringquist. Day 4 started with two young men who were at the party that night, each describing Cooper putting his hands or his boot on Sophie, and each confronted by the defense with what he told police in 2023. Then a friend told the jury the story Cooper gave her. In the afternoon the defense called its own forensic pathologist out of order, and the State went after what he relied on. I'm not the jury, and only the jurors decide. CHAPTERS 0:00 What this video is, and a preview 0:11 Intro 0:49 Video starts: Top Moment 1: A guest says Cooper pushed Sophie Why it made the five: he says Cooper was slurring and falling over, then pushed Sophie with two hands, her back into the side of his truck. On cross the defense says his recorded June 2023 call with the detective never mentions a push. He says he does not recall that, and that his sworn statement is true. 12:28 Top Moment 2: A witness says Cooper kicked Sophie Why it made the five: he describes Cooper telling Sophie to stop touching him, then kicking her two or three times with his right boot, and Sophie saying "Oh, you just kicked me to the ground." His sworn statement says he did not see her fall. On redirect he says he saw the kick, not the fall, because Cooper's back blocked his view. 17:53 Top Moment 3: She relays Cooper's account Why it made the five: a friend of Cooper's tells the jury his own account, as she heard it a couple of weeks later. An argument, Sophie feeling sick, a camera above the garage, a "throw up spot," and Sophie falling out of the truck and saying she was fine. Then the gaps: he never told her how, where, or whether the truck was moving. 23:35 Top Moment 4: He calls the death undetermined Why it made the five: this is the heart of the defense. The defense forensic pathologist says a rollover would leave injuries on both sides, that her injuries were mostly on the left, and that a rollover did not cause her fatal injuries. Watch the judge strike one of his answers in front of the jury. His rephrased opinion: undetermined. 37:39 Top Moment 5: The State probes his review Why it made the five: about five hours on the case, no notes, no report, and his opinions first written down a day or two before he testified. He did not review the hospital records, police reports, body cam, phone extractions or the truck itself. In my view this cross is how the jury will weigh Moment 4. 46:58 Up next: Day 3's Top Moments, Not in the Report, Is Sophie Okay and A Scared Call:    • The Life360 Trial: Ouellette Day 3 Top Mom...   CASE BACKGROUND REPORT: https://justiceisaprocess.com/ct-v-co... Connecticut Superior Court in New Britain, Judge Chris Pelosi presiding. Ouellette, of Harwinton, is charged with first-degree manslaughter and delivery of alcohol to a minor in the May 20, 2023 death of Sophie R., 17, of Burlington, after a party in Terryville. Prosecutors allege she fell from or was struck by his pickup truck; the judge has ruled that Life360 phone location data may be shown to the jury, and the defense disputes its reliability. Ouellette has pleaded not guilty. Evidence is set to begin October 29, 2026. He is presumed innocent unless and until the State proves each charge beyond a reasonable doubt.
