Torvill & Dean's Dancing on Ice (Australia, 2006) - Week 5

Summary: With only five couples remaining, Week 5 of Torvill & Dean's Dancing on Ice Australia raised the difficulty again, with each celebrity required to perform an unassisted jump. Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean opened the show before the remaining couples took to the ice, with the increasingly competitive field producing several personal bests. Hosts Jamie Durie and Sami Lukis guided viewers through the evening, while judges Belinda Noonan, Mark Storton, Alisa Camplin, Jason Gardiner and Karen Barber assessed each performance. Jake Wall and Maria Filippov delivered the standout performance of the night, changing pace with the romantic “All Time Love” and earning 26.5 — the highest score of the series to that point. Lara Bingle and Matt Evers continued to impress with an ambitious routine to “Push the Button,” featuring increasingly difficult Adagio lifts and earning 23.5. Michael Slater and Anya D’Jamirze produced a personal best of 21.0 with “What a Wonderful World,” while Jules Lund and Kristina Cousins embraced superhero theatrics for “Holding Out for a Hero,” earning Jules a personal best of 17.0. Karl Stefanovic and Linda Aubrecht also scored 17.0 after a difficult week in which illness had disrupted Karl’s training. The public vote sent Michael & Anya and Jules & Kristina into the sudden-death skate-off. Michael made several errors in his second performance, while Jules produced a stronger reprise of his superhero routine. The judges split 2–2 before Jason Gardiner cast the deciding vote for Jules on overall performance and entertainment value, eliminating Michael & Anya after their third appearance in the skate-off. Michael departed reflecting warmly on his partnership with Anya, the friendships formed during the competition and the experience of learning to skate.
