Yeah, big wave beach holds up.
I actually went through all of Requiem to have it serve as a better comparison for my playthrough of this, and I will say I didn't really enjoy Big wave beach there; it felt really punishing and annoying if you didn't have a majority of the plants made to counter the world. That's mostly fine as it's kind of a lategame world, and I did get a good amount of the best plants for it, but it overall didn't land for me. This does do a good job at improving on that though; the levels are more fun, it felt like i was able to use a bevvy of strategies rather than being confined to a set of plants, and I enjoyed the introduction of the coral cage zombie.
I will say though, I do kinda miss the tornadoes. Yes, they could be annoying (sometimes locking you into using pumpkin) and the finale level really put their annoyance levels to the test, but they could also be really fun and I thought they were both a unique and fitting addition to BWB. Here, it's replaced by vanilla's low tide, and to a certain extent it's better, but definitely feels less unique. I suppose I did overall like the levels better, so you can't eat cake or something.
Next up is Jurassic marsh; I really liked requiem's JM whereas I distinctly remember not enjoying resonance's so that'll be interesting. Hopefully it has the FBC effect where i realize its actually peak
