Frederic the Vampire, Part II For centuries, Frederic never needed to court anyone. A candlelit room, a dangerous smile, a whispered invitation—and usually, that was enough. Seduction was easy, effort was unnecessary, and Frederic had certainly never needed instructions. Then he met you, and for the first time in centuries, none of it worked. You rejected him completely. Frederic was stunned. But instead of walking away, he decided to do something even more extraordinary: try again properly. He read the books, studied etiquette, consulted the supposed experts on romance, and returned determined to prove that his interest in you was serious. If you wanted to be courted, then Frederic would learn how to court you. And learn he does - although perhaps with slightly more enthusiasm than necessary. He brings you diamonds, rubies and pearls, opens doors, pulls out your chair, gives you his coat, takes you through the Gothic streets of Morothaan by carriage, and carries you high above its cathedral towers and crimson landscapes in his arms. This time, you begin to notice him. You enjoy the beautiful gifts and grand gestures, but more importantly, you understand what they represent: Frederic is making an effort. He is no longer expecting a smile and a dangerous glance to win you in an evening. He is showing you that he intends to stay. Somewhere between the roses, jewels, etiquette lessons and extravagant attempts to impress you, something changes in Frederic too. What began as a determined campaign to win you over becomes genuine devotion. Making you happy starts to matter to him. He notices the little things, remembers what you like, and learns details no courtship manual could have taught him. Then one morning, after gardens, diamonds and moonlit flights, Frederic remembers exactly how you take your tea. He prepares it correctly, places the cup before you, and you give him that smile. Suddenly, the great master of seduction is staring at an ordinary cup of tea in disbelief, wondering how something so simple succeeded where centuries of experience could not. Frederic finally understands that proper courtship was never about choosing between grand gestures and small ones. The diamonds matter. The roses matter. The coat offered in the cold matters. The flight beneath Morothaan’s crimson moon matters. But so does remembering your tea, because every gesture tells you the same thing: I am paying attention. I am making an effort.
