Does grace give you permission to keep sinning? Romans 6 answers clearly: we are saved from sin, not saved for sin.
In this Bible study from Altared Doers Church, we examine what it means to be dead to sin, alive to God in Christ, and free from the bondage of sin. Jesus—Yeshua—did not die to give us a license to continue in adultery, fornication, lying, idolatry, drunkenness, or rebellion against God. He came to save His people from their sins and make them new.
Romans 6 asks: “Shall we continue in sin so that grace may increase?” Paul’s answer is clear: certainly not. Grace is not permission to keep practicing the sins that enslaved us. Grace forgives, teaches, restores, and gives us time to repent. The Holy Spirit changes the heart so that we can walk in God’s ways.
In this sermon, we cover:
• What Romans 6 means by dying to sin
• Why “under grace” does not mean free to disobey God
• The difference between falling into sin and choosing a lifestyle of rebellion
• How grace saves us from sin’s penalty and power
• Why baptism is an appeal to God for a new conscience
• The yoke of Messiah versus the heavy traditions of men
• What Acts 15 actually teaches about Gentiles, Torah, and the commands of God
• Why Yeshua came to save us from sin—not leave us in it
• How the Spirit produces obedience, repentance, and a new life
Sin is not freedom. The thing you obey becomes your master. Romans 6 gives two paths: slavery to sin leading to death, or obedience leading to righteousness. The Messiah calls us to take His yoke, learn from Him, and walk as He walked.
We are not saved by our works. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. But we are created in Christ for good works—the evidence of a life made new.
