God told me. I felt led. I'm anointed. last week we learned to test that. but test it against what the Spirit actually does — and most of us were never told what that is. so the question the whole message answers is: what does the Spirit of God actually produce? where we're going today: · the Spirit reminds us of Messiah's teaching — and what He taught was do not think I came to abolish (John 14:26, Matthew 5:17) · the Spirit causes God's people to obey — the answer shows up six hundred years before Pentecost (Ezekiel 36:27) · the new covenant writes the Law on the heart — it does not delete it (Jeremiah 31:33) · the flesh is hostile to God's law and cannot submit to it — so hostility is a symptom of the flesh, not evidence of the Spirit (Romans 8:7) that middle one is where it turns. Jeremiah watched people list real sins — stealing, murder, adultery, other gods — then walk into the house that bears God's Name and announce: we are delivered, so we can continue. delivered so we can continue. that is not an outsider. that is a congregation, in a sanctuary, with His Name on the building. so the question underneath the whole message is: what spirit is that? the garden said you decide what is good. Daniel saw a power that intended to change the appointed times and the laws. Paul said the mystery of it was already at work. and Paul told Timothy which direction the demand runs — people gather teachers around themselves to suit their own desires. the itch is in the ear before the teacher opens his mouth. a lawless gospel doesn't sell because it's convincing. it sells because it was ordered. heads up before we start: this is the front half of a two-week set. next Shabbat we take the rest of the chapter — what that obedience looks like in a room full of people — and that one runs long. — WATCHING FROM A DISTANCE? you're not alone — you're a Scattered Doer.
