Most people picture an ancient winter as a fight to survive. Cold, hunger, danger every day.
The bones and the camps tell a different story. For many groups, winter was the season they barely worked at all.
The hard work happened in autumn. By the first snow, the food was already stored, and there was almost nothing left to do. So they slept late, sat by the fire, mended tools, told stories, and simply stayed warm together for months.
It was the one time the pace finally dropped. A whole season built around rest. This is what they actually did all winter, why rest was part of survival, and why your body still remembers a slower season we've almost erased.
