March 24, 2023 Driving around Odell, Illinois off of Historic Route 66. Odell, Illinois was founded in 1856. There are several beautiful historic churches in Odell. Odell use to have a massive amount of traffic come through the town. So much traffic that it was necessary, at one time, to build an underground tunnel to cross the street to the St Paul's Catholic church that you see in the video. The tunnel is long gone, but a Route 66 marker stands near the spot. Odell is home to the historic Route 66 Standard Oil Gas Station, built in 1932 by Patrick O'Donnell. In 1997 the gas station was placed on the National Register of Historical Places. Odell is a beautiful old town rich in history and heaping with charm!
