After starting our ride from Rampur, we continued deeper into the Himalayan mountains on three different motorcycles—my Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450, my friend’s Triumph 400, and another friend’s Royal Enfield Classic 350. We were excited to continue our Spiti Valley bike trip, but the mountains had a different plan for us. The weather remained cloudy from the beginning, and light rain soon turned into continuous rainfall. The roads became wet, slippery, and difficult to ride. Visibility reduced as dark clouds covered the surrounding mountains, while rainwater and loose stones started appearing on the road. Riding in such conditions required extra concentration, especially on the narrow Himalayan roads and mountain bends. As we moved ahead from Rampur, the weather continued to worsen. The heavy rain triggered landslides at several points, making the route unsafe and unpredictable. The road was eventually blocked because of a major landslide, and authorities closed the road for safety. With no safe way to continue towards the Spiti Valley route, we had to make the difficult decision to turn back. Turning around was disappointing because we had planned to cover more distance on Day 3 of our Spiti Valley Circuit. However, mountain rides are not only about reaching the destination. They are also about understanding the weather, respecting the mountains, and making the right decision when conditions become dangerous. Continuing through rain and landslide zones could have put all three riders at risk, so safety had to come first. This episode shows the real and unpredictable side of a Himalayan motorcycle journey. The Guerrilla 450 handled the challenging roads, while the Triumph 400 and Classic 350 continued to ride alongside us through the rain and difficult conditions. Even though we could not complete the planned route, the experience gave us a memorable adventure filled with cloudy skies, rain-soaked roads, landslides, road closures, and the raw beauty of Himachal Pradesh.
