Qigang Chen's 'Enchantements oubliés' (Forgotten enchantment) premiered in 2004, and features some incredibly delicate orchestral textures and string writing. As a student of Messiaen, and having lived in France since 1984, this work (as well as the rest of his work), has an unequivocally French Impressionist sound. This short analysis breaks down some of the components in Chen's writing, and hopefully will serve as inspiration for your own composition methodology.
