Deep in Washington's Olympic Peninsulas Olympic National Park, ancient petroglyphs are hidden along one of the most remote stretches of the Pacific coastline. We set out on a two-night backpacking adventure along the Ozette Triangle to find them.
Armed with a treasure map and guided by friends who know the Ozette wilderness, our group heads into Olympic National Park to uncover a remarkable piece of Makah history.
Our journey takes us along the Ozette Triangle, through dense coastal forests, across rugged beaches, and toward the ancient rock carvings at Wedding Rocks.
But finding the petroglyphs is only part of the adventure. With the tides rising and our group separated along the coastline, getting everyone safely back becomes a challenge of its own.
