Ex-All Black Questions Springboks’ Depth: “You Can Only Pick 23”#springboks #allblacks #rugby

🏉 WELCOME TO RUGBY NETWORK 🌍 The Springboks have built one of the deepest squads in world rugby — but has that depth become more important than it actually needs to be? After South Africa’s 3–1 series victory over New Zealand, former All Black Jeff Wilson questioned the significance of the Springboks’ incredible squad depth, making one simple point: “You can only pick 23.” In this video, we break down the debate surrounding Rassie Erasmus, the Springboks’ selection strategy, and whether South Africa are genuinely capable of getting even better ahead of the 2027 Rugby World Cup. We look at why Jeff Wilson believes the Springboks may already be close to their ceiling, why South Africa’s strongest players were trusted during the biggest Tests, and what the emergence of players such as Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Manie Libbok could mean for experienced fly-half Handre Pollard. We also examine the opposing view from former Springbok halfback and analyst Kevin Putt, who believes South Africa are far from reaching their ceiling and that their younger players still have significant room to develop. Can the Springboks’ depth actually make them stronger? Is South Africa already at the top of its game? Or could the next generation take Rassie Erasmus’ team to another level before the 2027 Rugby World Cup?
