What is P8 in the golf swing, and why do nearly all high-level golfers reach this full-release position while most casual golfers do not? In this video, I explain why position 8 is one of the clearest indicators of a properly sequenced release—and why failing to reach it is connected to many of the root causes of poor and inconsistent contact. If you want better ball striking, a more reliable golf release, and a clearer understanding of what your swing should look like after impact, this lesson will show you why P8 matters. P8 is the full-release position in the P classification system. It is not simply a pose to copy after the ball is gone. It is the result of everything that happened earlier in the swing working correctly. Virtually every high-level golfer reaches a recognizable P8 position. Most casual golfers do not. That difference matters because golfers who cannot reach P8 are often missing one or more of the fundamentals that create: proper sequencing correct shoulder rotation an effective release clubface control speed through impact solid and repeatable contact In other words, P8 is not usually the original problem. It reveals the problems that already exist earlier in the swing. In this lesson, I explain what the full-release position should look like, why good players reach it consistently, and how the absence of P8 exposes many of the real causes behind fat shots, thin shots, topped shots, weak contact, and inconsistency. In this video, we cover: what P8 means in the golf swing why P8 is considered the full-release position why virtually every high-level golfer reaches it why most casual golfers do not how proper sequencing creates P8 how shoulder rotation and release mechanics work together why failing to reach P8 is linked to poor contact why P8 helps reveal the root cause of swing problems how to think about the swing as one connected motion instead of isolated positions P8 is not something you force after impact. It is the result of building the swing correctly before and through impact.
