The Lelantine War was ancient Greece's first great war — fought over just five miles of farmland. On the island of Euboea, the rival cities of Chalcis and Eretria and their horse-owning elites divided the Greek world to control the fertile Lelantine Plain. This film traces the conflict from the 50-meter burial at Lefkandi to colonies at Pithekoussai, Naxos and Chalcidice, and how trade and exhaustion ended with Athenian cleruchs and Persian destruction.
