Date filmed: 03/11/2020 Route: The Breckland Line Brandon Station Location: A1065 High Street, Brandon Trains: Class 755 (Greater Anglia) - Arrives at 1:14 - Departs at 1:51 A Manually Controlled Barriers with Obstacle Detection (MCB-OD) level crossing found on the Suffolk/Norfolk border on the busy A1065 within the town of Brandon, just outside of the Thetford Forest. The level crossing itself is just within Norfolk by a very small margin, as is the town's railway station, even though Brandon itself is a Suffolk town. Despite the busy main road and the moderate levels of usage from pedestrians, both alarms here are rather quiet, and one of which sounds with a wobbly and low-pitched tone. An extra set of lights also faces down the side road which takes vehicles and pedestrians to one side of the adjacent railway station. The signal box at this level crossing was taken out of action during re-signalling in 2012, and has since been removed completely. All four barriers at this level crossing are 2020-plate SPX barriers having been renewed only a few months prior to recording, and there is a noticeable time gap between the left-hand barriers starting to raise and the right-hand barriers starting to raise when the line is clear. All of this accompanies the usual obstacle detection equipment at this level crossing. Thanks for watching!
