Longplay/Full Playthrough of Shin Megami Tensei 3 Nocturne HD Remaster. Playing on Hard Mode, Chronicles version.
This vid is about the Ginza portion of the game's plot
Important Battles:
1:31:12 Succubus
2:46:36 Troll
4:22:04 Fiend Matador
Tips:
Troll is relatively easy. Just sleep/charm him until you got buffs+debuffs set up. Equipping the Magatama that nulls Ice helps against Troll's ice attacks.
Succubus is a hard fight. It's an optional fight with no rewards, so skip it if you want. Use Tarunda, War Cry or Rakukaja ASAP because her normal attack can OHKO any of your demons. She didn't do it in the video, but she also has a skill that instakills all sleeping enemies, and she will likely activate this after using her AOE sleep skill. Equip the magatama that nulls Mind on Demi-Fiend to avoid an instant loss. Also, Succubus can be insta-killed with Hama, if you wanna push your luck.
Now, Matador? He's an insanely tough fight. Maybe the second or third hardest fight in the entire game
Understanding Matador's AI and skills is important to winning before you decide to face him. He has 3 skills, Red Capote (Sukukaja x4), Mazan (low AOE wind damage) and Dekunda (Remove stat debuffs). He starts the battle with Red Capote and after that he keeps using Mazan and his normal attack. A quirk with Matador's AI is that you can Sukunda him twice and he cannot reactivate Red Capote, but a third Sukunda will let his AI activate Red Capote again, so try to only use Sukunda twice and no more.
The strat to beat him: Bring Nozuchi. He absorbs wind attacks to remove his second turn if he starts with Mazan and it heals him, making him a good tank. He also has a high Vit stat. Start the battle by fully buffing your team with -kaja skills (prioritize Rakukajas) before doing anything else since Matador doesn't have Dekaja. Also, activate Sukunda 2 times, he can't reactivate Red Capote if you only Sukunda him twice. After that, damage him until he reaches Phase 2
Once he loses alot of health, Matador will say some dialogue mid battle and enter his Phase 2. His AI is now able to use three new skills: Taunt (Rakunda x2, but Tarukaja x2 as a demerit), Andalucia (AOE physical attack), Focus (multiply the next instance of single target damage by 2.5x), plus he still has all of his previous moves
The strat: KILL HIM ASAP ONCE HE ENTERS PHASE 2! He will lower your defense with Taunt and he will eventually be able to OHKO you after multiple activations of it. Try to use a Rakunda on him, to either kill him easier or to make him waste a turn by making him use Dekunda. War Cry from Shiisha is also a good option instead of Rakunda. Noteworthy to mention, Matador’s Taunt skill gives you Tarukaja x2, so your physical attacks will hit harder making the battle easier
More tips on hard mode:
Once you reach Ginza, you unlock Sacrificial fusion!
Normally, you can only use two demons for a fusion, but during the Full Moon, you can add a third demon as a "sacrifice". That sacrificed demon's EXP goes into the demon you're fusing, and the demon you're fusing can inherit more skills from its parent demons than normal
This mechanic is pretty cool because you can use it to bring low level demons to very high levels. For example, if you're in the final boss area and really wanna bring a Jack Frost to the final boss for memes, you can fuse it (Shikigami+Kodama), but it'd turn out to only be level 7. But if you do it during a Full Moon, and select, idk, a level 80 Pixie as a sacrifice for this fusion, that resulting Jack Frost will probably turn to be around level 90 instead of level 7, which will give it enough HP to be useful against the final boss
If you can fuse a really cool demon but think to yourself "oh man this demon has awesome skills and resistances, but it's too low level for my team", you can always use a demon with alot of EXP in your stock as a sacrifice to fuse that demon you want at a higher level than its base level
IMPORTANT though, fusion accidents have a higher chance of occuring the closer you are to a Full Moon. Because Sacrificial Fusion can only be performed during a Full Moon, fusion accidents will happen often when doing Sacrificial Fusions. Make sure to save beforehand, unless you're happy with your level 95 Metatron fusion turning into a level 6 Slime by a fusion accident
