Western NC Afternoon Thunderstorm | 09/19/26 | Hendersonville, NC

Timestamps are below! On September 19th, 2026, a level 1 marginal risk was issued from central Mississippi/Alabama, to central Indiana/Ohio. A small portion of Western NC was included in that, though not the area I filmed. Realistically, only western Buncombe county, Transylvania county, and points west were all in it. Transylvania county was the only county in WNC to get some good action within the risk zone, though I couldn’t get there in time to film anything. This storm was very odd in how it behaved, and took some weird turns before getting to me. I believe there may have been a wind shift. The storm was initially moving south, and while it was over top of me it began moving east southeast and ended up toward Dana and the Polk County line. Downtown Hendersonville also got it pretty good. This storm was a super soaker, and dumped heavy rain on me for 20-30 minutes, along with gusty winds. The lightning was also impressive, especially once the storm was on top of me and moving away. Some strikes were pretty close while others were some distance away but still loud, vibrating my whole body. I thought at one point I may have felt some very small hail on the back of my neck as I was turned away from the rain but I’m not sure. I didn’t see any on the ground. There were no warnings or advisories with this storm as far as I know. There was a short term power outage from this storm that impacted about 130 people, located on Brookside Camp Rd.
