Brought to you by Selkie. The Irish way, in a dropper. IRISH20 for 20% off at selkiecare.com Ireland is not one people. It is four, laid down over a thousand years, and every one of them left a set of surnames behind. The Gaels who fixed their family names before almost anyone in Europe. The Vikings who founded Dublin in 841 and left names like Doyle, Higgins and McAuliffe. The Normans who landed at Bannow Bay in 1169, built the castles, and went so Irish the Crown passed 35 laws against it in 1366. And the Scottish and English Planters settled in Ulster from 1609, whose names still sit in the same corner of the island. In 2017 the Irish DNA Atlas showed those layers are still in the blood: ten genetic clusters, a Viking signal second only to Orkney, and a genetic line across Ulster that marks the Plantation four centuries on. At the end, you check your own surname against all four.
