Motivation arrives like fire and promises a new life by dawn. Then the cold morning comes, the flame forgets your name and every excuse begins to sound reasonable.
“Discipline Has Teeth” gives the vow an animal form: not beautiful, comforting or interested in perfection, but waiting at the threshold when desire disappears. Its bite is not blind punishment. It tears through the excuses while leaving room to recognize the days when rest is medicine and the days when fear is wearing pain as a mask.
The song moves through failure, shame and return. One broken link does not erase the road. Discipline becomes the force that guards a promise from the version of us that does not always feel ready to keep it—and meets us at the door each time we come back.
LYRICS:
[ACT I — THE ANIMAL AT THE DOOR]
[Intro — marching tribal pulse beneath a muted low riff]
[Verse 1]
Motivation came dressed in flame,
swore by dawn I would be changed.
By the third cold morning’s weight,
the fire forgot my name.
I built a throne from one good day,
then watched the following week collapse.
I called the feeling sacred will.
I called its absence my relapse.
[Pre-Chorus]
But something waits outside the light,
not beautiful, not warm, not kind.
It scratches at the door each night
and asks if action needs desire.
[Chorus]
Discipline has teeth.
It bites the lie before it speaks.
It does not care who I believed
I would become this week.
Discipline has teeth.
It guards the vow when fire leaves.
I do not have to feel prepared.
I only have to meet it there.
[Riff Interlude — mechanical guitar against hand drums]
[ACT II — THE BITE]
[Verse 2]
I fed the animal excuses:
“Not today. The body hurts.”
It dragged each reason through the dirt
and left the honest ones unburned.
There are days when rest is medicine.
There are days when fear wears pain.
The beast does not demand perfection.
It demands I learn their names.
[Pre-Chorus]
It bit my pride, not just my comfort.
It tore the mask of constant strength.
It made me count the smallest action
when I could not walk the length.
[Chorus]
Discipline has teeth.
It bites the lie before it speaks.
It does not care who I believed
I would become this week.
Discipline has teeth.
It guards the vow when fire leaves.
I do not have to feel prepared.
I only have to meet it there.
[Extended Guitar Solo — physical, syncopated, increasingly unstable]
[Breakdown — relapse]
I missed one day.
(Then burn the plan.)
I lost one fight.
(Then lose the man.)
I broke the chain.
(Then wear the cage.)
No.
One broken link
does not erase
the road I made.
[ACT III — THE RETURN]
[Ritual Bridge — floor toms and breath]
I came back ashamed.
The animal did not ask where I had been.
I came back weaker.
It lowered its head and let me begin.
Again is not a word for failure.
Again is how the muscle learns.
Again is every buried ember
refusing to forget it burns.
[Verse 3 — groove returns heavier]
Now every morning at the threshold,
it rises when it hears my feet.
The teeth I feared were never hunger.
They kept my promise safe from me.
I will not call the struggle over.
I know the urge to flee remains.
But I have learned a vow can carry
the man who does not feel the same.
[Final Chorus — massive]
Discipline has teeth.
It bites the lie before it speaks.
It stays when every borrowed fire
abandons what it made me seek.
Discipline has teeth.
Now the animal walks with me.
I do not have to feel prepared.
I only have to meet it there.
[Post-Chorus — shouted communal rhythm]
Fall.
Return.
Fail.
Return.
Bleed.
Return.
The vow survives
each time I return.
[Final Riff — opening march transformed, heavier and steadier]
[Low voice]
Tomorrow,
meet me at the door.
[One animal breath; cut]

I keep creating these long-form songs to explore the moment when inner conflict becomes transformation through sound.
