The greatest mistake of a seeker may be believing that every silence must contain an answer meant for them.
The initiate enters the forest carrying knowledge, visions and certainty. But the forest refuses to confirm his importance. No spirit speaks. No revelation arrives. He must decide whether he can remain without turning mystery into another possession.
“When the Forest Falls Silent” is the fifth ritual of The Shaman’s Vows: the Vow of Listening. It is a heavy progressive journey about accepting that wisdom owes us nothing—and that true listening sometimes means releasing the need to know.
LYRICS:
[Act I — The Missing Song]
[Verse 1]
I entered with answers sharpened and bright,
A name for each shadow, a map for the night.
I waited for branches to bow at my claim—
But nothing in the forest answered my name.
No wing cut the air.
No creature withdrew.
The leaves held their breath
As if silence could see through.
[Pre-Chorus]
I called it empty.
I called it afraid.
But something was watching
The noise I had made.
[Chorus]
When the forest falls silent,
I will not fill the air.
I will lay down every answer
And meet what finds me there.
No command.
No demand.
No throne built from what I know.
When the forest falls silent,
I will listen—
Even if nothing shows.
[Act II — The Collapse of Certainty]
[Verse 2]
I spoke to the roots of the visions I’d earned,
The rivers I’d crossed and the names I had learned.
The silence grew deeper with each thing I said,
Until all my knowledge felt heavy and dead.
Then far in the dark,
A single branch broke.
I opened my mouth—
But refused to invoke.
[Pre-Chorus]
No voice descended.
No sign drew near.
For once I stood
Without naming my fear.
[Chorus]
When the forest falls silent,
I will not fill the air.
I will lay down every answer
And meet what finds me there.
No command.
No demand.
No throne built from what I know.
When the forest falls silent,
I will listen—
Even if nothing shows.
[Act III — No Answer]
[Bridge]
What if the silence is not a gate?
What if no revelation waits?
What if the vow is simply this:
To stay when certainty does not exist?
[Breakdown]
I came for a voice.
I came for a sign.
I came to make the ancient forest
Confirm what I called mine.
But wisdom owes me nothing.
The dark need not explain.
I will not turn my hunger
Into another chain.
[Act IV — The Vow of Listening]
[Verse 3]
I left every title beside the old tree.
No spirit had spoken—yet something in me
Had loosened its grip on the need to be right.
I stood without answers and stayed through the night.
Then just before dawn,
Not meant as a sign,
One bird gave a note
That was never called mine.
[Final Chorus]
When the forest falls silent,
I will not fill the air.
I will lay down every answer
And honor what is there.
No command.
No demand.
No throne built from what I know.
When the forest falls silent,
I will listen—
And release the need to know.
