Written & Composed by Idan Amedi Translation by Naama Ben-Dor --- Capt. Alon Scagio, 22, from Hadera, was a sniper team commander in the Haruv Reconnaissance Unit in the Kfir Brigade. On June 27, 2024, during an operation to locate terrorists and weapons, he and his team were ambushed by terrorists. After running under fire three times to help evacuate and rescue injured medical soldiers from a vehicle targeted by a roadside bomb, terrorists struck Alon with a second bomb, killing him. Before the operation, Alon wrote letters to his loved ones, in case he doesn’t return. In them, he made a request that they play the song “Beautiful Things to See” by Idan Amedi at his funeral. His parents shared that they only received the letters during Shiva, after his funeral had occurred, but that a few days later Idan Amedi showed up to their home to play the song for Alon’s family. “I sang many songs at funerals,” Amedi later shared, “but I’ve never been asked to sing such an optimistic song.” This video is dedicated to the memory of Alon Scagio z”l, and is part of a broader project that I began to share English translations of Hebrew remembrance songs with the global community, in an effort to connect Jews throughout the diaspora in their shared pain and experiences, and eternalize the lives of our fallen read more about my project here: https://thezikaronproject.com/about/ Although not traditionally associated with Israeli Remembrance Day, this song, and Alon’s request for his loved ones to remember its message, embodies the Hebrew saying that often concludes remembrance ceremonies: ״ "With their death, they commanded us to live." Strange how here, specifically, everything is bright. There are tents outside. I sat here right in front of you, debating whether or not to ask, “Why have you suddenly gone quiet?” Missiles are falling outside. "My love, stop fixating on the end.” “My love, it looks like this was just how things were meant to be." That's what you say. "Let's just keep on living life. There are more beautiful things to see." I sat here right beside you, the news playing across from us. That poor Yonit. Everyone hates the messenger. I sat here right beside you, in front of us the casualties are shown. And I swear out loud. There is hatred of innocents, too. "My love, stop fixating on the end.” “My love, it looks like this was just how things were meant to be." That's what you say. "Let's just keep on living life. There are more beautiful things to see." We’ve laid down here, tired. You have a big smile on your face. And you say something deep; future and children. We’ve laid down here, tired. I reserve my right to remain silent. That's what works best for me. That way there are no lies. "My love, stop fixating on the end.” “My love, it looks like this was just how things were meant to be." That's what you say. "My love, stop fixating on the end.” “My love, it looks like this was just how things were meant to be." That's what you say. "Let's just keep on living life. There are– There are more beautiful things to see." There are more beautiful things to see."
