🌅 I RODE TO THE LAST LAND OF INDIA — DHANUSHKODI! What happens when you ride a bike towards the very edge of Rameswaram Island, with the sea stretching out on both sides? Come with me on an early-morning bike ride from Rameswaram to Dhanushkodi, one of the most unique coastal journeys in Tamil Nadu. This journey begins before sunrise, taking us through the beautiful and relatively quiet roads of Rameswaram towards Dhanushkodi, where the landscape gradually changes from town to open coastline. The biggest highlight? 🌊 SEA ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ROAD 🌅 SUNRISE AT DHANUSHKODI 🏝️ THE END OF THE ROAD / LAND'S END 🌊 BAY OF BENGAL + GULF OF MANNAR 🏛️ DHANUSHKODI'S HISTORIC RUINS 🗼 WATCHTOWER / LIGHTHOUSE VIEWS 🚲 EARLY MORNING BIKE RIDE 📍 LESSER-EXPLORED SIDES OF RAMESWARAM 🌊 WHERE TWO SEAS MEET One of the most fascinating things about Dhanushkodi is its geography. At the eastern/southeastern end of Rameswaram Island, the Bay of Bengal and Gulf of Mannar are found on opposite sides of this narrow coastal region. India's official tourism website specifically highlights Dhanushkodi as a place where the Bay of Bengal and Gulf of Mannar merge. So when you travel towards the tip, you get the incredible feeling of having water stretching out on both sides of the road. That's one of the reasons this journey is so visually spectacular. 🌅 DHANUSHKODI SUNRISE We started early in the morning to experience Dhanushkodi before the day became busy and to witness the changing colours of the sky around sunrise. The combination of: ☀️ Sunrise 🌊 Open sea 🏝️ Sand and coastline 🚲 Bike ride 🌴 Coastal landscape makes the early morning journey completely different from visiting Dhanushkodi during the middle of the day. If you're planning a photography or travel trip to Rameswaram, an early start to Dhanushkodi is absolutely worth considering. 🏍️ THE ROAD TO DHANUSHKODI For me, the journey is almost as important as the destination. The road gradually takes you away from the busy parts of Rameswaram and towards a much more open coastal landscape. At several points, you can experience the incredible feeling of travelling along a narrow stretch of land with the sea visible on either side. The official Rameswaram Municipality describes Dhanushkodi as the southernmost tip of Rameswaram Island and notes that it is around 18 km from Rameswaram by road. 🏛️ THE STORY OF DHANUSHKODI Dhanushkodi isn't just a beautiful beach destination. It also has a tragic history. Dhanushkodi was once a functioning town with railway and other public infrastructure. In December 1964, a devastating cyclone destroyed the town, leaving behind ruins that remain part of the landscape today. The Rameswaram Municipality confirms that the town was completely washed away in the 1964 cyclone, while the Kothandaramaswamy Temple survived. As you travel through the area, you can still see reminders of the old Dhanushkodi and its past. That's what makes this place so different from a normal beach destination — there is beauty, history and tragedy all in the same landscape. 🗼 DHANUSHKODI LIGHTHOUSE / WATCHTOWER Another striking landmark in this area is the Dhanushkodi Lighthouse. The Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships states that the lighthouse was commissioned on 14 May 2022, stands 49 metres high, and is located about 19 km from Rameswaram town near the old railway station and church. It is positioned with Palk Strait on one side and Gulf of Mannar on the other, and its visitors' gallery offers a 360-degree view. The lighthouse adds another fascinating dimension to the Dhanushkodi landscape. 🎬 RAMESWARAM SERIES This video is part of my Rameswaram travel series, 🚆 PART 1 — Train Journey to Rameswaram I Took the 4 AM Train to Rameswaram | Pamban Bridge Journey 👉    • I Took the 4 AM Train to Rameswaram 😱 | Pa...   🛕 PART 2 — Ramanathaswamy Temple Inside Rameswaram's Famous Ramanathaswamy Temple | 22 Theerthams & Complete Tour 👉    • Inside Rameswaram's Famous Ramanathaswamy ...   🌅 PART 3 — Pamban Bridge & Sunset Rameswaram's Most Beautiful Sunset | Pamban Bridge, Trains & Sea Views 👉    • Rameswaram’s Most Beautiful Sunset 🌅 | Pam...   📺Travel India PLAYLIST 👉    • I Explored Velankanni Beyond the Church | ...   #Dhanushkodi #Rameswaram #DhanushkodiTrip #DhanushkodiBeach #DhanushkodiSunrise #RameswaramTravel #Rameshwaram #TamilNaduTourism #TamilNaduTravel #IndiaTravel #DhanushkodiRoad #DhanushkodiBikeRide #RameswaramVlog #TravelIndia #IncredibleIndia #BayOfBengal #GulfOfMannar #TwoSeasMeet #DhanushkodiLighthouse #DhanushkodiGhostTown #RameswaramTourism #RameswaramTrip #RameswaramTour #SouthIndiaTravel #TamilNaduTourism #CoastalIndia #Sunrise #SunriseLovers #BikeRide #RoadTripIndia #HiddenIndia #ExploreIndia #TravelVlog #IndianTravelVlogger
