RAMESWARAM PART 2 | RAMANATHASWAMY TEMPLE Welcome to Part 2 of my Rameswaram journey! ❤️ After travelling to Rameswaram by train and witnessing the beautiful Pamban Railway Bridge and stunning coastal views, in this episode I explore the heart of Rameswaram — the magnificent Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple. This is one of the most important pilgrimage destinations for devotees of Lord Shiva and is one of India's 12 revered Jyotirlinga shrines. Rameswaram is also one of the important Char Dham pilgrimage sites. Come with me as I take you inside the Ramanathaswamy Temple, explore its incredible corridors and architecture, experience the spiritual atmosphere and also walk through the colourful local streets around the temple. 🛕 ABOUT RAMANATHASWAMY TEMPLE Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, worshipped here as Ramanathaswamy. According to the traditional Ramayana-linked legend, Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva at Rameswaram. The temple therefore holds a special place in Hindu pilgrimage and is revered by devotees across India. The temple also represents an important meeting of traditions associated with Rama and Shiva. The sanctum is associated with two important Shiva Lingams — Ramalingam, traditionally associated with Lord Rama, and Vishwalingam, traditionally associated with Hanuman. According to temple tradition, Vishwalingam is worshipped first. Morning: 5:30 AM – 12:30 PM Evening: 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM The temple itself describes these as 22 sacred Theerthams within the temple. The 22 wells are traditionally associated with the 22 arrows in Lord Rama's quiver, and devotees believe that bathing in the sacred waters provides spiritual purification. 🛕 Temple Opens: 4:00 AM Devotee Darshan: From 5:00 AM Morning closure: 1:00 PM 🌆 Evening Reopens: 3:00 PM Darshan: From 3:15 PM Closes: 8:00 PM The pilgrimage tradition commonly begins with Agni Theertham, at the seashore near the temple, followed by the 22 Theerthams inside the temple complex and then darshan. 👕 DRESS CODE & TEMPLE ETIQUETTE If you are planning a visit to Ramanathaswamy Temple, dress modestly and respectfully. 👨 For Men Recommended: Dhoti / veshti Traditional Indian attire Long trousers with a modest shirt is a safer choice when not participating in rituals Avoid: Shorts Sleeveless or very casual clothing Clothing that may be considered inappropriate for a major place of worship 👩 For Women Recommended: Saree Salwar kameez / churidar Other modest traditional Indian clothing Avoid: Very short clothing Revealing or excessively casual outfits If you are taking the 22-Theertham bath, carry a change of clothes and a towel. Since temple rules and enforcement can change, follow the instructions displayed at the temple or given by temple authorities on the day of your visit. 🙏 WHY IS RAMANATHASWAMY TEMPLE SO IMPORTANT?
