Rainy Day Piano | Bach, Chopin, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Liszt | Calm Classical Music

A quiet afternoon. Eight familiar melodies. A moment to remember. Eight pieces of Rainy Memories, played twice through. Bach's Sinfonia No. 7 in E minor, BWV 793, weaves three melodic lines in 3/4, and Chopin's Prelude in A major, Op. 28 No. 7, marked dolce e semplice, follows. From Schumann's Kinderszenen come Bittendes Kind (Pleading Child), which ends without an answer on a held dominant seventh, and Glückes genug (Perfect Happiness). Mendelssohn's Song Without Words, Op. 85 No. 1, swells and fades over gentle arpeggios; then two of Schubert's Impromptus in A-flat major follow, D. 899 No. 4 with its cascades of falling notes and D. 935 No. 2 with its calm theme of smooth chords; and Liszt's hymn-like Consolation No. 4 closes each round. Here they are reimagined for the washed light just after the rain and a rainy night by the river: a warm grand piano follows the original notes over soft chamber strings, with a cello, a clarinet, a flute or a harp in some pieces.
