Goose is an open source AI agent: you describe a chore in plain words, and it runs commands and works with your files, using the AI model you connect. This video installs Goose on Omarchy and uses both of its forms, the desktop app and the goose command line tool, which share one setup. Goose started at Block, the company behind Square and Cash App, which released it as open source in January 2025 under the Apache 2.0 license. In December 2025, Block gave Goose to the Agentic AI Foundation, a project of the Linux Foundation, and in April 2026 the code moved to the foundation's own GitHub organization. Six core maintainers lead the project now, and a few of its maintainers work at Block. What the video shows: Installing Goose from the AUR through the Omarchy menu (Super + Space, Install, AUR). goose-desktop-bin is a community package built from Goose's official .deb file; Goose has no Arch package of its own. As with any community package, read its build file (or have an AI coding agent read it) before you install it. One package installs both the desktop app and the goose command. Connecting a model: Anthropic with an API key and Claude Sonnet, set up with goose configure in a terminal, which hides the key as you type. The desktop app reads the same settings. Asking Goose to sort a Downloads folder into Photos, Documents, Spreadsheets, and Archives, then reading each command it ran. Turning on the Computer Controller extension to read the total from a PDF receipt. The goose session command in a terminal, and the Memory extension, which keeps a fact between sessions. What it costs: Goose is free, and the model provider bills you for what you use. The default mode lets Goose use tools without asking first; Settings, Chat, Default Mode switches new chats to Manual or Smart approval. Super is the Windows key on a PC keyboard.
