The Plague Village | The Dark Story of England’s Most Courageous Village

In this video, we explore the historic Derbyshire village of Eyam, forever known as the Plague Village. In 1665, bubonic plague arrived in Eyam after a parcel of cloth was delivered from plague-stricken London. What followed was one of the most extraordinary acts of sacrifice in English history. Rather than risk spreading the disease to neighbouring communities, the villagers agreed to isolate themselves from the outside world. During this walk around Eyam, we visit plague cottages, family graves, St Lawrence’s Church, the ancient Celtic Cross, Mompesson’s Well, Eyam Hall and many of the locations connected to the devastating outbreak of 1665–1666.
