What does it really mean to accept the things we cannot change? And is it possible to go beyond acceptance, to find a way of embracing the life we have?
Beginning with Avraham's journey into the unknown, this shiur explores the deeper dimensions of the human soul, drawing on Jewish sources and some surprisingly practical insights about how we respond to life's challenges.
We explore the idea of chayah — a dimension of the soul associated with a deeper understanding of life and its purpose — and consider how faith (emunah) can help us connect with something beyond our own limited perspective.
Through a moving personal story about recovery, a story from everyday life, and teachings from the Derech Hashem, Pirkei Avot, and Rebbe Nachman, we consider:
Why accepting reality can be so difficult
How to distinguish between what we can change and what we cannot
Whether we can move from reluctant acceptance to actively embracing our circumstances
What it means to align our will with something greater than ourselves
