✨ ABOUT THIS SONG ✨ This song came about from just the first verse, which was more of a chorus or a refrain for me. It bounced around in my head like an old-time Come To Jesus melody. Over the 4 years I have nursed this, it just didn't seem to want to grow further—quite content to just be an attitude of gratitude. Then a few weeks ago, as I sat down to reflect on these words, I asked myself the question—what am I really thankful for? Many times when I found myself going down that dark, dark road of loneliness and depression, I sang this to myself. I thank you Lord, for loving me I thank you Lord, for setting me free I thank you Lord, for making my life brand new I thank you Lord, I thank you Lord.   Every time I sang this, a complete feeling of love, gratitude, and yes—joy would well up inside me until my feelings overflowed and I was cocooned once more in His loving presence.   I just never was able to complete this song until now.   One night I sat down at my desk, and I contemplated on why am I thankful, really, why? Not just the “Count your blessings” song that my mom always sang to me when I was feeling blue but deep searching, "Why?"   As I meditatively reflected on my life’s journey, I was reminded of the time I joined Mom at St Martin’s where Arthur Nipper brought revival. It was there that I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and God revealed himself to me as a Father. It was the song from Keith Green (Make My Life a Prayer to You) that brought me to my knees as a confused 19-year-old, realising that I needed God and that I was no where near what the words of that song called for. The Holy Spirit used that song to reach me, and I had an Acts 2:37 experience. Even now, whenever I play his song, those memories come flooding back fresh in my mind, and it is the one thing that I use whenever the devil tries to attack me with doubts and fears of my salvation. My life is my prayer!!! The words God spoke to me as I lay on the floor of that little church, wrapped up in the blanket of His love,, "You are my precious precious child; I love you with a love that will never die, and nothing will ever separate you from me." As I further reflected, I remembered that yes, He holds me in the palm of His hand, that He fights my battles for me, and that He is my Rock and guiding light, and that I have so much to be thankful for.   I then put my hands to the keyboard, and the words just flowed out of me from a heart overflowing with gratitude as the tears leaked out of my eyes as I remembered that day on the floor when I totally surrendered (age 19) and the Holy Spirit came to live inside me. I had hardships with my dad, who tried his best to be a father but had struggles of his own, so until that day I had not really experienced a father’s all-embracing love or how such a love can truly set one free. So, all these memories came to aid me in my seeking inspirational material for this song.   Then I took my cellphone and sang the first verse into it. I downloaded it into my laptop and then uploaded it into Suno. It is interesting, but Suno interprets my voice as baritone, with rebato and several other music-technical terms. I wanted to keep the spirit of my song’s melody and realized that the style was old-time bluesy gospel needing a soulful women’s voice.   I created it via Suno and this is the result. As I listened to the song, I found myself crying with arms lifted up in praise and, yes, thankfulness for all that he has done and continues to do for me.   We really serve an amazing Father God.   May this song also speak to you and remind you that no matter what, he holds you (and your family) in the palm of His hand, and he will fight your battles for you. © 2026 Mike Bekker.
