How do you recover picking capacity in a grocery distribution center without expanding the building? At Gruppo Megamark's distribution center in Molfetta, Italy, the operation handles 110,000 cases a day, 11,500 SKUs and more than 600 stores. Here the answer came from slow-moving SKUs: items requested only occasionally that were taking up pick locations on traditional racking. ICAM installed four SILO² multi-column Vertical Lift Modules, each 9 m (30 ft) tall. ICON software integrates them with the distribution center's WMS. Every movement is verified by EAN barcode scanning, and picking follows FIFO or FEFO logic.
